In 1977, I was admitted to Foreign Language Department of South China Normal University, major in English Literature. After 4 years study , I graduated in 1982 and acquired Bachelor Degree meanwhile I was offered a job as an English teacher by Guangdong Building Material School. In 1988, I got a certificate for Assistance Lecturer. In 1993, I obtained the certificate as English Lecturer after reviewed and evaluated by the First Evaluation Committee for Teachers’ Professional Technical Qualification of the Secondary Technical Schools in Guangdong Province. In 1998, I acquired the qualification as Senior lecturer issued by the First Evaluation Committee for Teachers Senior Professional Technical Qualification of the Secondary Technical Schools in Guangdong Province.
In 2002, I was recommended as one of the member of the First Evaluation Committee for Teachers Professional Technical Qualification of the Secondary Technical Schools in Guangdong province, responsible for reviewing , auditing and making comments for the applicant’s essays, teaching experiences, evaluating their qualifications.
Since 2004, I has been working as a sales administrator for Mini-Circuits in New York . My job is taking care of the customers in China, dealing with customers complaints, coordinating business issues and communicating with the engineers for technical problems, translating technical data sheets and contracts. The current job has enriched my knowledge in the business field and provided me opportunities to learn how to deal with problems and public relations from which I realize the power of team work. Comparing with the two jobs, I enjoy teaching more than a sales administrator. I believe that the business experience will facilitate my teaching process and help my students to learn effectively and even advise something helpful in their career choice.
Having been teaching and doing research in vocational technical school in China for more than 20 years, I found there was a great room to improve and develop in the teaching method no matter in teaching Chinese or English. I have written and published 5 essays about English teaching and participated in compiling text books and exercise books as well as Teachers handbooks which were published by Beijing Higher Educational Press and recommended to all the vocational technical schools in China ( see resume). I would like to devote myself in the field of Chinese teaching with the help of TCSOL program offered by Columbia University. I believe it would be a great opportunity to learn from the education experts of one of the top education institute in the world. Hopefully I will be able to apply my teaching philosophy and teaching skills trained in Columbia Teacher College to the new educational world. I also believe that the experiences acquired from my current job as a sales administrator will also be the valuable treasure to support me standing successfully on the teaching stage again from the other point of view.
Being a teacher, besides knowledge, effort, and dedication, passion also is a very important factor for successful teaching. Teaching is the career that influences the new generation, the guidance for the future of the nation. I have passion to introduce English speaking people the Chinese magnificent culture and enrich their knowledge by providing them different view on the world, especially China is playing an important role on the stage of the world today. I also believe that teaching Chinese is a meaningful job since China has more than 3 thousand years history and civilization which was represented from its literature, life style, philosophy and ethics.etc.
